OVERLAKE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB
TO HOST RONALD MC DONALD HOUSE
HOLIDAY CRUISE AUCTION
BELLEVUE, WA – (September 10, 2003) – The second annual Ronald McDonald House Holiday Cruise
Auction will be held Saturday, November 15th, at the Overlake Golf & Country Club in Medina.
The event supports the annual Ronald McDonald House Holiday Cruise, which allows children and
families staying in the house during the holidays to enjoy a very special Christmas Eve, including a
dinner cruise aboard the Royal Argosy and a visit from Santa Claus. Proceeds go toward cruise
expenses and Christmas gifts for the patients and their families, who are spending the holidays in Seattle
while receiving cancer treatment.
Event chair Patti Wells of the Kirkland Police Department praised the generosity of the Overlake Golf and
Country Club and explained, “The staff at Overlake have worked with us on the cruise in the past, and
have always gone above and beyond in their support. When they heard we needed to expand to meet
increased needs, they suggested we move the auction to their beautiful new clubhouse and banquet
facility. We feel privileged and excited to be able to take them up on their charitable offer.”
The Kirkland and Medina Police Departments and the Seattle Police Guild sponsor the Cruise, which
began in 1982. The Holiday Cruise was supported by donations until 2002, when the first annual auction
was held at St Thomas Episcopal Church in Medina and raised nearly $15,000. 22 of the 24 families
staying at Ronald McDonald House in December of 2002 participated in the cruise last year, aboard
Argosy’s Spirit of Seattle. Recent expansion at RMH has increased the number of families expected on
this year’s cruise to about 48, with 80 or more projected for 2004.
“We want to thank Bob Hollister and Eddie Carrell and their staff at Overlake,” added Wells. “Many of
them are donating their time and talent to help us reduce overhead and better serve the families at
Ronald McDonald House.”
Doors will open at 6:00 pm with items available for viewing and a silent auction, with dinner and the live
auction beginning at 7:00. Items scheduled to be auctioned range from flat screen televisions and
Hawaiian golf packages to upright and baby grand pianos from Sherman-Clay and a 2003 Ford
Thunderbird from Bickford Ford in Snohomish.
